Govan Brown enjoys a privileged position within the construction industry for being able to collaborate on very unique projects. Stantec’s space at 401 Wellington Street West in downtown Toronto typifies the inventive projects we have the pleasure of being a part of.  Beginning in 2007, the project was designed to LEED certification standards. After the subsequent completion of the downtown Toronto offices, Stantec would retain Govan Brown twice more to complete their Markham offices and to insert an internal  staircase in the  already  functioning Wellington offices. As mentioned

above, the Stantec project and its entire 35,500 square foot space was completed while maintaining a LEED certification. Considering the fact that the base-building was a 100-hundred year-old warehouse, it was quite difficult to outfit the space in LEED fashion. Undaunted, Govan Brown rigorously coordinated with trades in both the shop drawing and installation phases to ensure roles and standards were assigned and followed. Furthermore, LEED certification was upheld by innovative material selection and the immense use of reclaimed wood. Coordination was required when

approaching the raised floor as it provided flexible heating, cooling, electrical and communication systems, all of which had to be properly installed and procured within the limits of safe LEED practices.      The aggressive nature of the schedule and LEED requirements is an example of the types of working environments Govan Brown is capable of thriving in.
