As is often the case with many of Govan Brown’s clients, Nortel decided to change locations due to their growth and expanding staff. As such, they decided to retain our services as construction managers to build-out a space equipped for their needs. Relocating from Brampton to Etobicoke, Nortel’s new offices were comprised of 11 floors and a total of 220,000 square feet. The office contained all the equipment necessary for a large-scale communications company like Nortel.  For a  building

the size of Nortel’s, it was crucial that the design included facilities capable of servicing the staff of an 11-storey office. The ground floor was built to be a service area, capable of accommodating many departments including shipping, receiving and security. The ground floor was also the location of the lobby. Furthermore, a very large, 2,000 square foot Main Equipment Room (MER) was built on the ground floor and is supported by an  Uninterruptable Power  Source

(UPS) for emergencies; it is  built upon an 18” access floor with Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units that cool the floor from below. Another interesting feature is the newly-built, 1,500 square foot broadcast studio which supports all internal multi-media broadcasting needs. The very large Nortel project was an extremely rewarding experience for our construction manag-ers. Our team was happy to deliver this 11-storey office to Nortel on time and on budget.
