Given   our   extensive   decade-long   relationship  with   Heenan Blaikie,  Govan Brown  was  excited  to  be  the  construction  managers  for  their  tenant  fit-up in  the  Bay  Adelaide  Centre.  The  51 -storey  tower,  located  in  the  heart  of  downtown,  was  the home  of many  construction  projects during  the  building process  of   the  Heenan Blaikie  offices.  With  only  2 freight  elevators  available  for  the  entire building, Govan  Brown was  able  to  build  the client’s  five  floors  in  impeccable  fashion.  Along  with being  an  example  of  modern  office  space, Heenan Blaikie was  the  first  tenant  to occupy the prestigious tower. Comprising   of   5  floors, and  120,000 square feet,

the Heenan Blaikie floors were built concurrently. To accommodate the need for coordination, multiple site offices were built. The head office was built on the top floor of the project space with smaller site offices on the subsequent floors. Coordination was paramount to the successful completion of this project. Not only did we need to work with both base-building landlords, contractor and other construction sites, but the designer was headquartered in Montreal. Using remote phone and internet lines, we were able to stay connected to all those included in the project. As  for  design  elements, the project  had  many specific details that needed to be included First, considering the size of the

office, an IT hub room was built on each floor. Other rooms incorporated into the design include large boardrooms with state-of-the-art AV systems, a legal library, client conference centre and a new reception area. Aesthetic elements included quartz flooring, a custom 30’ decorative metal wall and custom vinyl wall graphics. Having built several spaces in the BAC, our familiarity of the building served to benefit us, guaranteeing our success on this project.
