Located on the ground and second floor of 55 University Avenue is the Haworth showroom. The 13,000 square foot space, complete with movable walls and raised access floors, is an ideal resource centre for designers, architects, real estate professionals, clients and dealers. Designed in conjunction with Perkins & Will and IBI Group, the space showcases the company’s products and progressive ideas in sustainable design and adaptable workspaces. Along with the inherent  challenges of earning a LEED certification,  was the ongoing coordination with a large team of American and Canadian consultants. Like many of Govan Brown’s

projects, Haworth’s showroom was completed with an aggressive schedule. Included in the schedule was the procurement and supply of a large staircase and glass balustrade. This specific long-lead staircase and balustrade were pre-tendered  and  awarded,  then  fast-tracked  in  order  to ensure  completion  within  the  time  restraints. Further  challenges  included  the  high  ceilings  which could only  be  approached  by  lifts  and  the  inconvenient  location  of  the  sole  accessible  elevator  which sat  specifications beyond the worksite’s walls. High concentrations of trades and laborers also complicated the process, however, we

were able to complete the project on schedule.      Govan Brown, in our years of experience, has had the opportunity to install many extravagant design elements into many different spaces. Our experience has prepared us to deal with the potential difficulties presented by large project features. For the Haworth staircase our knowledge was tested but ultimately the combined experience of our team ensured the completion of the project.
