In 2005, Govan Brown was asked to build-out a new space for 80 of their employees that were being relocated to CI’s new office at 2 Queen Street East. The project was completed in two phases-propelled by a tight deadline determined by CI’s lease expiry of their former space. Through careful scheduling and organization, our team was able to properly coordinate the project’s activities and phase accordingly. After the completion of the first phase, which took five weeks to complete, the first set of CI employees were  moved in. The second phase, conducted in an semi-occupied

space, was completed in eight weeks. The entire project, comprised of 66,900 square feet, took just under three months to complete. In those three months we were able to manage an inordinate amount of project services, including, building a new reception area, open offices, closed offices, private offices, meeting rooms, a staff kitchen and a new computer room. All of these areas were complemented by high-end mill work and upgraded ceilings with brand new light fixtures. Creatively, when the long-lead light fixtures  were  delayed, we recycled light fixtures from

CI’s previous location and temporarily installed them to ensure that the daily operations of the office were not interrupted. This project was a great example of Govan Brown’s ability to improvise and organize around project impediments. Furthermore, we also showcased our ability to work in occupied spaces without disturbing our clients or their employees.
