In 2010, CI Financial retained Govan Brown’s services once again to complete an interior fit-up of seven floors located at 15 York Street in downtown Toronto. Adjacent to the Air Canada Centre, the CI Financial space was purposed to be an administrative and support staff facility. This extremely complex project is comprised of 224,000 square feet of space and required intense coordination with both landlord and base-building contractors to successfully complete. When entering CI Financial’s new space, one is almost immediately struck by the impressive open concept re-

ception area. Decorated by an impressive 9,000 square foot terrazzo floor, the reception area is an indicator of the elegant aesthetic that fills the seven-floor office space. Included in the extravagant design is the use of custom, high-end millwork; complex ceiling features and modern light fixtures. Employee-centric areas were also factored into the design, including a kitchen, entertainment area and a fully landscaped patio containing a separate bar and kitchen. The extensive scope of this project was challenged by  an  accelerated  construction  schedule. All floors compl-

eted were subsequently turned over to the client who then moved in their employees; this demanded careful coordination. Prior to any client move-in however, we had to complete a fully functioning computer- room which was a challenge in itself. Completed in April of 2011, the CI Financial at 15 York Street was a  noteworthy accomplishment. We were able to carefully coordinate and navigate the intense project schedule  and were able to successfully move-in our client from  their satellite offices.
