Located in Mississauga’s Meadowvale neighborhood is the site of the Microsoft Canada office. In 2012, they retained the construction management services of Govan Brown to perform a comprehensive renovation of two floors and 160,000 square feet of their space. It was important to our client that the revitalization of the space was cohesive and maintained a streamlined atmosphere adhering to Microsoft standards. The vast project scope was made up of a number of areas including the cafeteria; a large, divisible meeting area; reception area; lobbies; multi-purpose room (MPR)  customers.  The  EC  also contained 4 unique themed

stages and a Microsoft Tech Centre (MTC). The entire space, completed in two phases, required the implementation of new light fixtures. These light fixtures were unique to Canada and had never been installed outside of the United States prior to this project. In the MTC, these lights, programmed to flash and vibrate, played an aesthetic roll as they back light a feature wall made up of blue acrylic panels. Also located inside the MTC was the envisioning centre. The Envisioning Centre (EC) was built with theatre seating and AV components and acts as a presentation room for Microsoft  clients  and stages, designed to dis-

play the dexterity of Microsoft products. The extensive AV and media components of the project required the installation of new rooftop units as the existing HVAC systems could not support the mechanical requirements of the new installations. New HVAC was required also to support the addition of a raised floor and accompanying air distribution system. Despite challenges presented by foreign technology and the delay of long-lead items, we were able to move our client in by July of 2013. Microsoft remains a client of our services department.
