Govan Brown has worked on several projects for Delta Hotels in two separate provinces.  For this project, we were retained by Delta to refurbish the pool area of their hotel in downtown Calgary.  The scope of the project included expansion of the bathrooms, training facilities and refurbishing the 3rd floor pool, all within an occupied hotel. The project began by gutting the existing pool.  Once the pool was gutted, our trades began to replace the mechanical equipment attached to the pool.  Plumbing lines were replaced as well as the addition of new fixtures that would allow for faster draining and water intake. As the plumbing for the pool was being completed,  our  team began the

demolition of the bathrooms.  Similar to the pool, the bathrooms required new plumbing to accommodate the new saunas.  New fixtures were also installed in the bathrooms to reduce water usage and increase efficiency.  The pool was sanded; the pool-floor was then coated in marcite while the walls were retiled.  New millwork was installed in the bathrooms along with teak-wood accents in the sauna for a more refined look.  The construction process was completed on a very aggressive schedule.  There was very limited time for coring given that the pool was above the hotel restaurant and adjacent to a boardroom and a gym. The third floor location of the space also presented

some difficulties as all waste had to be disposed of at the loading bay on the main floor.  Our team assembled a trail-way from the construction site, through the hotel to the waste disposal area, limiting our disruption to staff and hotel guests. The success of this project relied heavily on sequencing and coordination between our team, the trades and client.  Our weekly meetings in tandem with our onsite direction allowed for this project to be completed on time and under budget.
