In 2015, Govan Brown was retained by long-time client CIBC Wood Gundy to renovate their existing branch in Oakville, Ontario. Having worked with Wood Gundy on numerous occasions, our team was confident in our ability to satisfy their needs and deliver an outstanding project. The 10,600 square foot office is spread over two floors, and a main part of the scope was the need to renovate the existing internal staircase that connected the two floors. Prior to construction, it was determined that the existing staircase did not meet accessibility codes and needed to be thrown out and

replaced. While   this   work   was   happening, the office remained occupied which meant our team needed to implement a phased construction schedule. Completing this project in phases was the best way to ensure that the branch’s day-to-day operations were not disturbed; that we would be able  to erect effective hoarding to prevent noise and dust mitigation; and to ensure safety of wellbeing of all involved especially when replacing the staircase. One strategy that was utilized in phasing our work was to split the office in half so that while one area was being renovated, the

other half housed the temporarily  displaced  staff  and  vise-versa. This strategy was particularly effective when renovating the existing boardroom, lunchroom and security cage. While on site, our scope also called for a few upgrades which  included  re-finishing  parts of the space with wood panelling, renovating the washrooms to make them barrier-free, upgrading security, upgrading the existing cabling with fiber for secure raceway data and installing glass office fronts.
