Govan Brown was approached by CIBC Wood Gundy to renovate their 6th floor space in the prestigious Brookfield Place Tower located at 181 Bay St. The Wood Gundy office enjoys a position of prominence right in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District. The Canadian investment giant sought a modern retrofit for their offices and were keen upon updating the atmosphere of the location to suit the current staff and clientele. Govan Brown was able to complete the project in just six months. To accommodate our client, who had leased a swing space to house the temporarily displaced staff, Govan Brown put a premium on promptly completing the project in order to save our client
money. We spared no expense in procuring the best trades and materials to complete the space to the exact design and specifications. Included in the project scope was the renovation of the reception area, open offices, closed offices, staff kitchen, cafeteria and decorative elevator surrounds; all of which were complemented by high-end millwork, glazing, glass partitions, upgraded ceilings and fixtures all worked to create a clean and modern look. Perhaps most impressive of all these design elements was the retractable millwork wall that bordered the main boardroom. The retractable wall, which is panelled by intricate dark brown millwork, required the atten-
tion of multiple trades. Trade work included designing retractable millwork and developing solutions for supporting the wall and ensuring its functionality as well as its aesthetic appeal. Apart from the aesthetic and spatial renovations there was also a large amount of mechanical work done including the installation of all new HVAC systems. In all, our team was able to accomplish the high-end professional design intent of the client and build a space indicative of Wood Gundy’s esteemed position within the financial realm.
